Three 26-point builds

Allocations checked against tiers, ranks and prerequisites in the beta dataset from Oct 8, 2026. Support and defensive options have specific roles; they aren't equal in duel damage.

Shadow with utility · 5/0/21

First damage build to test in duels and the open world; keeps heals and adds Silence through talents.

Discipline: Twin Disciplines 5/5.

Shadow: Shadow Focus 3/5; Blackout 5/5; Improved Shadow Word: Pain 2/2; Shadow Reach 2/2; Improved Psychic Scream 2/2; Mind Flay 1/1; Improved Mind Flay 2/2; Vampiric Embrace 1/1; Shadow Weaving 2/3; Silence 1/1.

No Shadowform: it's a 31-point capstone. Don't use macros that assume you can leave a form you can't learn.

Discipline / Penance · 26/0/0

First healing and support option to compare in BGs; lets you test attrition, dispels and Mana Burn in duels.

Discipline: Twin Disciplines 5/5; Improved Power Word: Shield 3/3; Holy Precision 3/3; Martyrdom 2/2; Meditation 3/3; Mental Agility 3/3; Inner Focus 1/1; Soul Warding 1/1; Mental Strength 3/5; Improved Mana Burn 1/2; Penance 1/1.

Loses Silence and Mind Flay. Doesn't gain Power Infusion or 31-point abilities.

Holy support · 0/26/0

Healing alternative with group tools and magical survivability.

Holy: Holy Specialization 5/5; Improved Renew 3/3; Twilight Focus 2/3; Spell Warding 5/5; Divine Fury 5/5; Binding Heal 1/1; Holy Nova 1/1; Spiritual Guidance 3/5; Spirit of Redemption 1/1.

Spirit of Redemption isn't a duel-winning plan: not every duel ends in death. No Circle/Prayer capstone.

Duels against all nine classes

First build to test in each matchup. Identify your opponent's spec, race and gear: class alone isn't enough. Practice several rounds before changing points; the suggestions below are tactical proposals, not measured results.

Against Warrior

First test: Discipline / Penance · 26/0/0.

Their threat is keeping you in melee. Watch Charge/Intercept, Hamstring and shield swaps; an available Berserker Rage can shut down a fear. A brief gap doesn't mean a safe reset.

Shields, heals and fear should buy time; don't stack Psychic Scream into an available Fear counter. Discipline is a defensive comparison.

Against Paladin

First test: Shadow with utility · 5/0/21.

Separate their immunity, CC and healing windows. Save an answer for the next heal after they've spent a defensive; don't pour all your offensive resources into an active immunity.

Shadow compares pressure and Silence; Discipline compares attrition. Save mana for healing instead of spending it all on dispels.

Against Hunter

First test: Discipline / Penance · 26/0/0.

Range and pet are two separate threats. Watch slows and traps; CC'ing the pet doesn't remove the Hunter's damage. Avoid chasing in a straight line through prepared ground.

The pet keeps pressure even when you aren't targeting it. Control one threat to heal; don't channel while exposed to both.

Against Rogue

First test: Discipline / Penance · 26/0/0.

The opener can chain CC; manage your CC break and defensives to survive the dangerous stretch. DoTs make resets harder, but can also break your own CC if applied carelessly.

Discipline is the first test against physical openers. Shield and CC should regain initiative; don't waste fear without room to heal.

Against Priest

First test: Shadow with utility · 5/0/21.

They can dispel and recover health while draining your mana. Choose which heal to interrupt instead of answering every cast; pressure without resources can play into their attrition plan.

Shadow brings Silence for healing windows; Discipline offers a resource plan. Mana Burn needs real casting time.

Against Shaman

First test: Shadow with utility · 5/0/21.

Identify totems and shocks before committing. Don't hard-cast a long heal into an available Earth Shock without creating space or baiting the interrupt. Prioritize totems that actually interfere with your plan.

Bait or wait for Earth Shock before a crucial heal. Totems and Purge reduce the value of relying on a single defensive buff.

Against Mage

First test: Shadow with utility · 5/0/21.

Track Blink, roots and, if their build has them, Ice Block/Cold Snap. Don't commit your entire offense around one root when they can create another gap. Polymorph can give them recovery time.

Don't give them Counterspell on your decisive heal. Use instants and CC to open a window; Shadow can answer with Silence.

Against Warlock

First test: Shadow with utility · 5/0/21.

Respect Fear, DoTs and demon utility. A Voidwalker, Succubus or Felhunter changes the plan; don't assume level 36 Spell Lock or that every build has Soul Link.

Watch the demon and Fear; healing without space under DoT pressure burns resources fast. Silence and dispels need a specific purpose.

Against Druid

First test: Shadow with utility · 5/0/21.

Expect shapeshifting, heals and mobility. Their current form reveals immediate options, not their whole build. Don't chase without resources while they recover; interrupting a heal in caster form can open a window.

Pressure or drain resources during the caster window. Don't spend all your mana chasing a fast form; prepare CC and your next heal.

BGs and open world

In BGs, Discipline/Holy need positioning, allies and protection from interrupts. Shadow adds damage and CC. In the open world, don't chase without mana or let every dispel cost your healing opportunity.

In BGs, play objectives and coordinate CC with your team. Before spending a CC break, distinguish CC you must break from CC you can sit. In the open world, check terrain, allies and escape routes. Tournament rules don't automatically apply to these activities.

Gear and BiS reference

Compare health, intellect/mana and spell power appropriate for damage or healing. Spirit may help attrition, depending on actual regeneration. Level 30 Shadow doesn't mean Shadowform.

There's no universal duel BiS list here: it changes with build, opponents and restrictions. The linked guide helps compare level 30 mechanics and gear; its damage focus doesn't automatically determine the best PvP setup.

What macros improve

Mouseover speeds up shields, dispels and heals without losing your enemy. Focus keeps Silence on a secondary target; only use stopcasting when you're willing to lose the current cast.

Alternate pressure with heals, shields and dispels. Shadow only has Silence and Mind Flay if you take their talents; Discipline offers attrition and Penance. Don't run out of mana chasing an immediate win.
